Keep Our Oceans Clean

Human Impact on Plastic

Plastic and other things in the ocean
All the things we dispose of on a daily basis ( Plastic water bottles, cups, utensils, electronics, toys, and gadgets ) are rarely recycled in a community. We currently recover only 5% of the plastics we produce. About 50% is buried in landfills, some is remade into durable goods, and much of it remains lost in the environment where it ultimately washes out to sea. Plastic Pollution begins on land, then from our communities, into storm drains and to rivers. Many tons of plastic pollution flow out to sea every year. At sea, plastics absorb pollutants at high concentrations .Plastics both entangles wildlife, and is ingested by many marine species, including fish that humans eat.The animals also take in other chemicals that the plastic took in from the outside sources in the water. And  animals eat other contaminated animals, which would be bad for humans, the animal at the top of the food chain. If this continues, populations will soon drop. Although many organizations have tried to help and prevent plastics in the oceans, they are far outnumbered by the people who are not helping or preventing plastics on the oceans.WE are the one that caused all of this to happen.WE are the one who are ruining the earth.WE are the one who are hurting millions of innocent animals that doesn't deserve to be treated this way.So if WE created the problems, shouldn't WE fix it?

Where it Comes From

Picture
Plastic, trash and other things near the ocean water
Plastics are thrown carelessly on the streets or beaches all the time. You can be on your way to work and finish your coffee then throw it out on the street. Then when it rains, it will go down the storm drains, and it will go to the river. Eventually, it will end up it the oceans. Another way it can end up in the ocean is by being swept by the wind. When people go fishing, plastic bags, bottles, cables, fishing nets and other debris are sometimes thrown off boats and ships.Sometimes, people just dump it directly into the ocean. You see, how something simple as that can affect the whole ocean?

How it Affects the Animals

Picture
About 44 percent of all seabirds eat plastic, apparently by mistake, sometimes with fatal effects. And 267 marine species are affected by plastic garbage --- animals are known to swallow plastic bags, which resembles jellyfish in mid-ocean, for example.
They also face the invisible threat of toxic, plastic-derived chemicals.
It is exactly the light weight nature of plastics which can make them deadly in the marine environment.
